Hi all,
I'm wanting to make some bacon broth in my slow cooker for tea tonight, but forgot to soak my broth mix for the 8 hours/overnight....does it really matter?
They are in to soak now, and by the time I get the broth on to cook they'll have been soaking for about 2 hours, will that be enough?
I've read varying reports on the internet, and I don't want to poison anyone lol!
Thank you!

I suspect it's more likely to be hard than poisonous. If it were me I'd blast it in the microwave to speed up the softening process.0

Thanks PasturesNew.
Put it into the microwave still in the water? How long for? Sorry, I'm pretty clueless as last time I'm sure I used ones that didn't need soaking at all....or at least for not as long.

Dunno .... if the water's to be drained off at the end, I'd remove some of it .... and if the water's a part of the stock, then I'd leave it.
As for how long .... I'd play it by ear and give it a go, for as long as I'd got to play with .... it'd bring it along further/faster than doing nothing.0 -
I'd just ping it for 5 minutes if you want. I'm surprised broth mix needs soaking, I thought it was mostly lentils and split peas which don't need a soak.0

I've never soaked the Broth mix. I usuallly start off as a base in the slowcooker Broth and Pearl Barley and boil them for 10 minutes or so until soft before they go into the SC, Then all the rest, lentils which have soaked; veges; stock; whatever is going in.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Thanks SS! I'll remember that for next time.0 -
I soak the whole bag when I buy soup mix split peas ect.
I split into two and freeze in ziplock bags.
You then have the soup mix ready to make into soup when required”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”
