How to use my combi microwave

Just hoping for some advice. I bought a combi microwave a few months ago to replace my basic microwave that broke. I am just using it as a microwave at the moment as I am unsure as to how to use the oven part.

Do you use the grill stand for the oven or is that just for the grill? When I put say chicken pieces or fish in the oven do I put it in a dish or on the grill?

Also if I am doing a dish in the oven and another in the microwave how do I keep one warm while the other is cooking?

I want to use this to its full potential but find I am still using my big oven just for one piece of chicken or fish for myself.

  • I don't bother using the grill option on my combi. I tried it didn't like it.

But I love the oven function so easy for one pie, or a portion of something. I tend to use an oven safe plate to cook things on. I know you can use metal because you're using the oven part but I prefer to use a plate or small dish. ( I bought a couple from poundland that are small enough)

I don't understand 'doing a dish in the oven and another in the microwave'

My favourite microwave/oven combi is jacket potatoes. Put on microwave function for 5 minutes. Then oven function for 20 minutes which crisps up the skin - much quicker than the cooking in oven.

Now I got rid of ours as tbh it was huge and we never actually used it often

However I have a few memories of using it

The tall rack is for grilling. Was good for cheese on toast use grill for toast, then micro and grill combined for the cheese. Took seconds

Jacket spuds with crispy skin was also a combination of micro and convention oven

The oven part really is just a small oven. It just takes a lot less time and energy to heat up. I remember mine came with quite a comprehensive " cook book" with times and combinations for most food stuffs. If you don't have one, give the manufacturer a ring and ask for one

Thank you for your reply. I assumed the rack was for using with the oven aswell, I did try some fishcakes in the oven once when I first got it and used the rack and they tasted rubbery so that must be why.

I often have chicken or fish pieces (that I would do in the oven) with steamed veg that I do in the microwave, so if I put the chicken or fish in the oven I would have to keep it warm while I do the veg in the microwave afterwards so was wondering how that would work.

I've got a Delonghi Combi, must have had it at least a couple of years now, but it's only recently i've tried using the oven part and not used the grill yet.
I thought the book that came with ut was a bit rubbishy.

Well me mum used it more then me so going by what she did, she had a small oven tray which she placed the main element of the meal to be cooked via the oven function, then turned it to micro to cook the veg. If like mum you are buying small portions for one then they do only take a minute or two to nuke. If you are worried Your chicken or fish will be cold , wrap in foil
  • If I remember correctly, on my old one (never used it as anything other than a microwave in the end) you are not meant to use the microwave until it's totally cooled from being used as an oven. Might be worth checking this on yours OP.
As long as you're ok to use the microwave immediately, then you'd have to wrap whatever you've cooked in the oven in foil whilst you microwave your veg…or reheat the oven stuff in the microwave at the end.

I had a combi. Only really used it as a microwave, stunk like anything when used as a combi oven(despite being cleaned regularly I might add) when I used it.

When it packed in i just bought a cheap thing. If hubby actually ate his meals when they were cooked i could do away with the thing altogether.

Just another question, when using the oven part do you keep the microwave turntable in aswell?
