On another thread I am asking about English Champagne or whatever we have to call it.
Here instead I am telling you about where to get quality Italian food for Christmas or any other time.
There is this fantastic entrepreneur, Farinetti, who has opened big Italian food stores/restaurants in Italy, US, Japan and other places that have been runaway successes. In 2016 I hear he is going to open one in Selfridges, London, which is surely a recommendation, and I think will be all the rage when it starts.
What he goes for is quality and genuinity of products and tradition. He seeks out and promotes all the old traditional and regional stuff, pasta, salami, ham, cheeses, sauces, candy, wine, oil etc. that is, I guarantee, a good cut above what you will find in the Italian shop round the corner in most places, you have to taste the difference.
They deliver to home in the UK within a few days of order. For orders above €113, about £100, delivery is free. Limited to non-perishable. There is a site at http://www.eataly.co.uk but you have to subscribe to see much - if you want to have a look around first try here http://www.eataly.net/it_en and it has an English version if you find the button - it's comprehensible enough even without, everything has pictures.
I've been a number of times to stores in Italy and got orders in the UK and am more than satisfied, enthusiastic, and recommend without reservation.
