Christmas Day signing

Hello,
This has probably been covered before on this website but I have not really got the will or inclination to trawl through 20 odd pages, so I thought I would start a new thread and hope someone would be so kind as to try and answer my query.
I am due to 'sign on' on Christmas Day, which is obviously a bank holiday, now I know the 'Hitlers' at the Jobcentre would if they could drag us from our beds and make us 'sign on' paying staff extortionate amounts of money but. clearly I don't think this is going to be the case. My question is this, as I am due to 'sign on' on that date, does anyone know if I will be excused signing, when my money will be paid, or if I do have to go in will it be before of after this date. Reason for my query is that as this is an expensive time of the year I am trying to budget my money, around when I have the 'pittance' paid into the bank account.
The reason I ask is that the last time I was suppose to 'sign on' on a excusing signing day (the poor dear Job Centre people were on strike), I didn't go in but then I got sanctioned because they claimed I missed a signing day, obviously this was quashed on appeal, but it did 'muck up' all my payments etc and clearly I am trying to avoid the same situation again.
Sorry for the long-winded post, but I just needed to fully explain the situation.
Regards
Adele

I trust you don't expect an answer from one of the 'Hitlers' that work at the Jobcentre?0

It certainly used to be the case that when a signing day fell on a public holiday you were excused from signing that day and it just rolled on to your next scheduled date. However, that was a few years ago and things have tightened up a lot since then so it may have changed. You're right that is has been discussed before (more likely on the Benefits board) so if you don't get a definitive answer then a search should find it - rather than using the site's search facility it's often better to use Google and include moneysavingexpert as a search term.0

If you don't want to see the hitlers at the job centre, or receive their pittance then here is a novel idea........get a job.
But then if you think it is too much work to search a forum i guess searching for a job is beyond you.0 -
Have to say MY GOD!
Most of us have to get up rain, hail, shine and do things. Just because you do not have a job what gives you the right to belittle other peoples.
Guess what I work, guess what it is an expensive time for me too, guess what I have to budget as well! Guess what I am not hilter just a normal person trying to get by!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

Well said :T
There really is no understanding some people's attitudes.0 -
I hope IDS isn't reading this about the possibility that claimants may not have to turn up to sign-on. He'll be tightening up on the rules.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I'm afraid I can't help, I will be working a 16 hour night shift on Christmas day!
Unbelieveable!0 -
There's heaps of Christmas period work out there - even if it's glass collecting in a bar. It could lead to longer term work if you do a good job.
Christmas doesn't have to be expensive - I've vetoed the last four due to being absolutely skint. And that's with a job. Best Christmas Day I had was volunteering at Crisis. Makes you realise what being skint genuinely means when you spend the day with the homeless.
Well worth doing and might put things into perspective for you - as well as being something to put on your CV.0 -
I believe that reasonable people don't have to sign at all during the 2 week period over Christmas and New Year. A***h****, on the other hand, are having their signing days changed to something more inconvenient!
Staff within the JCs do not make the decisions on when the offices are open and closed and certainly aren't paid extortionate rates for being there either. You sign on once every 2 weeks and assuming your over 25, although I suspect you're under 12 from your attitude, means you are getting roughly £145 for one hours work. Who's the one on the extortionate rate now?
As others have said, if you don't like going to the JobCentre get off your backside and get a job.0 -
Normally you sign on every fortnight and if you are scheduled to sign on CD, you are probably SO this Thursday (11th).
There maybe a poster up explaining the signing on process over the festive week as the ones that sign on the other Thursday will be messed with NYD as well. If not, ask the little Hitlers.
As to Johnnytwostep, your advice to get a job is lame. Probably more perm roles available in the new year as I done temp work in Nov - December and loads of new jobs started mid-end Jan when I was job hunting in 2005-6. 2007-8 Its very difficult to get long term or perm work starting now. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
