Help, Lamb past its use by date.

I was round a friends last night and she was clearing out here fridge as she had an organic box delivery today. She gave me 2 packs of lamb that she couldn't make use of. They have been vacuum packed and in the fridge since her last delivery.
The diced lamb is dated the 28 November use by, and the diced lamb 05th December. Both smell fine, the diced lamb is good colour. Minced lamb has a bit of grey oxidisation in parts but pink throughout underneath bit that haven't seen light.

Would you say if they look and smell fine they would be ok to eat? Ive never risked meat this far past its use by before :/

Thanks in advance.

We're only the 8th today, so i don't think having a date of the 5th would worry me. Whenever they put these dates on things i'm sure they're giving themselves plenty of leeway before the stuff will poison people, so even the 28th November is only 2wks. I think i'd follow my nose, if it smelt ok i'd use it. It has been sealed and in the fridge.

  • I would use it after all it has been in the fridge, as SailorSam says if it looks ok and smells ok it should be fine.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I might go with the stuff dated 5th if it passed the sniff test, but 28th November is too long IMO.
