Experian Soft Check Rejected!!

Hi All,

I've recently gone through the lengthy 2 hour mortgage eligibility check with Tesco mortgages as part of a remortgage application.

At the end of the conversation, the mortgage advisor submits a credit soft-check (the one that doesn't affect your credit score). For my application this check unexpectedly came back as declined.

The only information i was given is that this 'soft-check' is carried out with Experian, and that i should check my credit report with them. I have logged onto the experian website (paying the £30 for both my fiance and I), and have trawled through all the information, and we both have a 999 score, and not a single blemish on our credit records.

The mortgage itself is well within our affordability limits, but I am at a loss as to what may have caused this....

I plan to call Experian when they open tomorrow morning to hopefully find out more, but does anyone know if they will be able to provide a reason as to why we were rejected for this particular check or how we could possibly find anything out?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

That sounds very strange, is there absolutely nothing you can think of that could have caused this, electoral role, no credit history in terms of credit cards or loans? I would not worry, get yourself a broker and if everything you have said about affordability etc then I cannot see them not being able to get one.

Are all your addresses for the last six years noted on all of your credit files?

Ignore the "999" nonsense, as it is irrelevant.

Is there anything else in your application make-up which might have caused a decline, such as affordability or other data causing a low score. It isn't always about credit bureau data, but it's the stock answer lenders use...

I did a Tesco agreement in principle online with the soft credit check and it came back as accept and both my husband and I come up as a 999 credit score.

There must be another issue as others say. Perhaps not being on the electoral role, affordability or maybe the agent entered something incorrectly?

Because you didn't meet the lenders criteria. Your Experian score has no bearing on the outcome.
