Drinking fudge

Options
Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but...

We have a few relatives who are batty about fudge, and year after year we buy some for them for Christmas. This year I've come across drinking fudge, which sounds lovely, and would be something different to get them. The only thing is that it seems quite expensive for what you get, and I'm sure there must be a way of making it at home. Has anyone tried? Did it work? How long will it keep for?

Any info or ideas gratefully received.

No experience on making it at home, but I've bought drinking fudge before and it really wasn't impressive at all :( So I'd probably recommend not buying it, especially as, ike you say, it's quite expensive.
  • Oh dear, what a shame! Thanks for the feedback, and it's back to the drawing board for me then.

Have you tried making fudge for them?
This is a recipe from Nov/Dec Mo*risons magazine.
    200g butter
    200g condensed milk
    800g Icing sugar
I found it easiest to melt the butter but don't let it get hot, add the condensed milk, mix.
Sift in the icing sugar beating well after each addition.
On one batch I added a few drops of vanilla essence. In another I diluted a teaspoon of instant coffee in a tiny amount of water (mainly because I didn't have any coffee flavouring) Someone else suggested doing rum & raisin.
I lined a toffee tray with greaseproof paper, spooned the mix in, levelled it out a bit and decorated with those edible silver ball things, probably worth lightly pressing them in. Chill overnight in the fridge.
Lift out and cut into small squares.
Makes 80 small squares. My 'product testers', next door neighbours said it was lovely and want more.
Also, on the back of nestle condensed milk or their website, there is a recipe for chocolate fudge.
    Hope this is helpful!
  • What a nice simple recipe. I might just give that a go. Thanks a lot

Great I bought that drinking fudge today in Oxford! I hope its better than the one smoosh bought. :( just over a £1 each as well bought 6 for £8. Did buy snickers fudge as well.
  • Ooh, snickers fudge sounds lush!

Hopefully yours will be nicer! We did enjoy the drink but didn't think it tasted particularly "fudgey", just tasted like flavoured hot chocolate. I hope you enjoy yours! Snickers fudge sounds amazing.

Made a double quantity of this fudge this afternoon. Would have made chocolate if I had andy cocoa or flavouring, but had to make vanilla. Tastes nice. Have put it in freezer for Christmas.

  • I tried drinking fudge a month ago when we were in a store that gives free taste. I didn't really opt for trying that kind of drink, but since it was offered for free, I tried it. For your concern, there are gift sets that contain everything to make a drinking fudge. You might give it a try.
