What is credit card 'loading'?

Just wanted to check my understanding, as I'm looking to get a different credit card for abroad as my current HSBC one charges for pretty much all usage (as I as have several city breaks lined up next year, where I typically make small payments, the charges start to add up!)
I've read on MSE about the Halifax Clarity card and it says "

It means they don't charge you for using the card abroad. Most cards charge a fee on each foreign transaction to convert the local currency to Sterling.0
