Curry's Extended Warranty Problems

I purchased an extended warranty from Curry's with my Laptop, which included an Accidental Damage cover as standard.

Whilst decorating my 9 month old baby accidentaly knocked a pot of paint over my carpet and laptop. (Mainly my fault, I was gently swinging him around having a bit of fun and he just grabbed as we went past).

My home insurers (Abbey - highly recommended) had no probs replacing my carpet, but I went to Curry's to have my laptop repaired under the warranty agreement.

After 5 weeks of waiting to hear news and calling once a week only to be told to be patient, I was then told that the damae had been classed as malitious ( ), and that they wouldn't mend or replace my laptop - Even though I had paid £199 for my cover agreement and it was clearly an accidient.

Is tere any way to appealt his decision or get somethign done, as I am now without my computer and can not afford £500+ for a new one.

Did you buy the laptop/warranty on a credit card or other finance? If so, they are liable too and may put the insurance company under pressure to pay up or have to pay up themselves.

Currys (or their insurers) are talking out of the back of their heads - how woukld they know that the paint on the latop was poured onto/into the laptop as an act of crimimal damage and not as a the result of an accident, if they weren't present when the incident occurred? Ask them for a written explanation of why they think the damage was malicious.

nip into your local store, ask for manager or customer services and ask them to phone BAT on your behalf and argue your case.

Yes it could be, but as the op has the Currys plan its alot better using that as it wont affect there house insurance on renewal as you will have to declare it to them and may put the price up.

I would also mention to Currys that Abbey have had no problem paying out.

Ring consumer direct, I had the same problem with Dixons (did not have the extra warranty) but my laptop developed lots of faults and seem to be in repair all the time, I wrote to them on the advise of Consumer Direct and managed them to give me an exchange (laptop 10 months old)

Try the County Court Small Claims, you can do the lot on line.

But it is best to write to them first before starting any proceedings, perhaps threaten them with small claims
