You seem to misunderstand the technology because any degradation (appreciated by some) is not from the original recording (which would be PRISTINE) but from the vinyl reproduction/record its self - user end not manufacture end
But my point was that the original recording is unlikely to be pristine so the manufacturers use alternatives. The alternatives are likely to sound slightly different (in some cases a lot different) to the original recordings. If the new vinyl masters are made from a CD it will not have the full dynamic range of the uncompressed original (tape) master recording.

Some people even go to the extent of searching out vinyl made from the first stampers but I wouldn't personally go to that extreme. (I do have a first pressing of Sgt Pepper but only because I found it on a car boot and paid £2.00 for it! I wasn't actually looking for it. I also have a second press MONO of the same album but my brother gave me that). I believe in the later days of vinyl to keep costs down stampers were used for a lot more pressings than they used to to save money. This lead to reproduction problems on later pressings because the stampers were getting quite worn towards the end of their life.

Give me an original pressing every time.

    Ian.
