MET-McDonald's

My car stayed at a McDonald's by a London Airport recently.

I received a posted PCN demand for £100 from MET which was the first I knew that there was any issue about parking.

The PCN states that the free stay period is 60 minutes. The car was there for a short time longer (less than 20 minutes).

I read through this forum and some of the success stories and rang the manager of the fast-food franchise. He said the car-park was not owned by the fast-food company but had been bought out by MET. He said there are fourteen signs posted in the area but accepted that, as it was dark at the time, I might not have seen them. He also said that the practice caused him to receive many complaints. He took the PCN No: and said he would email MET with his suggestion to cancel the PCN.

As the registered keeper, should I contact MET directly to find out the state of play?
Should I still follow the "appeals" procedure as stated on the PCN letter? (I have amended the template in the newbie thread in readiness - though I like the more aggressive "tone" of da_rule's template - can this still be used?)

Believe it or not I've been reading there and every other thread I could search copiously but still manage to mess it up, eh? (I just about stopped myself from accidentally posting in the NEWBIE/FAQ thread!)

We must seem really daft to those of you who can navigate on here but (as an experienced forum user) it's really not that easy to get it right.

Can my question be moved to a more appropriate place?

The newbies thread has shown you the first appeal and when to send it. By the way, MET do not own the car park!

Thanks Coupon-mad, my misquote - actually he said MET operate on behalf of the owners who were no longer McDonald's.
