    Here is an interesting question:

    Which is better:

A high Dynamic Ration, say 5000:1 instead of norm 1000:1 or 500:1
    or
A Hight Resolution sat 1900x1300 instead of usual 1300x700

    ??

This site came in useful for pricing and availability.

I ended up buying a Sony from here, as part of a TV + DVD package.

KDL-40S2510U + RDR-HXD870 Sony 40" HD Ready IDTV and 160Gb Sony DVD Recorder @ £799 delivered is the silver version.

KDL-40S2510U 40" HD Ready IDTV Twin HDMI @ £673 delivered for TV only.

I can't find the silver one? can u help

the first question you need to ask yourself is how much am i willing to spend? there are loads of options depending on your price point, and some features you just can't afford or dont really need.

go to avforums.com/forums and ask there. thats where the real av addicts go to discuss what/how etc.

for a quick review, hdtvtest.co.uk does very comprehensive reviews.

regarding TV's. the current fashion is Black and Glossy. Silver is seen as harking back to the CRT days, so to differentiate blacks the in colour. having said that the Sharp RD2E and XD1E ranges could fi the bill.

for you the most expensive extras will be around 1080i and 1080P. for some the difference is negligable.

remeber that broadcasting in 1080p is a long way off, but dvds etc are already here, so for future proofing would suggest a 1080p set regardless of size/viewing distance (which is one of the suggested reasons not to get 1080p).

personally i'm getting the Samsung 40" M87 series. this boasts the best connectivity, latest HDMI standard and is regarded as a pretty much rounded screen barring some problems. the M86 is a Currys/Dixons exclusive.

a slightly lower spec Samsung is the R87 set, again pretty good in tests etc.

get over to AVforums and confuse yourself for a few fweeks before deciing whats best for you. :)

Does anyone know if this recorder will upscale?

    Here is the Sony link

It doesnt say on there, however Amazon claim it does

if you get a TV thats HD ready (720p, 1080i or 1080p) then they all upscale pictures.

the only reason to get something else that upscales is because the scaling technology is better in the dvd recorder/PVR then the TV.

dont worry about it :), again, the avforums users have plenty of dvd recorders in use and can suggest the best for your price point.
