Pimp my mincemeat!!

Hi,
Just after any ideas on what ingredients I can add to my jars of mincemeat for mince pies.
What do others add to make it extra juicy and special??

  • I add chopped glace cherries, chopped almonds, zest and juice of an orange plus brandy to mine. Tastes good and keeps well.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
  • More booze, dried fruit (booze soaked dried fruit ;)) grated apple?
Different sort of dried fruit, cranberries, apricots?

Try putting a little bit of marzipan under the pastry lid before you bake them.

I usually make it, but would just chuck in anything you have, or like the look of!

What about grated apple or rum soaked apricots or chopped dates?

Edit: littlegreenparrot you got in before me re; apples and apricots! Nice idea with the marzipan.
  • Ooh thanks I meant to ask this as yesterday I found the jars I bought in Sainsbury's for 10p earlier in the year. Another job for OH, I can't stand the stuff ;)

I would tell you Jellybro, if I hadn't just spent a fruitless couple of hours looking for my very special mincemeat recipe. I have made it for the last 20 years at least and have now mislaid the scruffy bit of paper it is written on. :(:(

I second the suggestions above: lots of booze and grated orange rind ... mmmmm

Cranberries and pretty much any orange liqueur you have lurking at the bank of a cupboard.

Thanks for the suggestions... I think I may have a bit of orange liqueur hanging around. Grated rinds and apple sounds yummy too.
