Problem open files

I am having problems opening files. I've down loaded 7 zip file manager and I have windows 7. But no matter how many times I try to download embroidery files as jef or pes, they just download as blank documents and I'm unable to open them. I've always used winzip, so this is the first time I've used 7 zip, but still can't open using 7 zip because they are not showing in the correct formate to open. Please can some one help:(

They aren't compressed files, you need to install the correct software to view them.
