I don't know the technical differences but I do know that my DVD player will play some DVD- disks but will always play DVD+ disks. Maybe it's just my very fussy DVD player but I've found that any - or + disks which play on that will play on any other DVD player. I tend to stick to +R simply because my DVD player (or any others I've tried) never has a problem with them.

They're two competing formats that never had an outright winner so many dvd devices are compatible with both. There's also the lesser used DVD RAM.

    - is the official format and + the Philips format.

There is little difference, though -R hold a few MB more.

Pirates used to go with -R as they used to be more compatible with players than +R, but most players today will play both. -r used to be much cheaper too, but the prices are more or less them same now.

+RW are easier for re-writing than -RW

-RAM are best for re-writeable use, however very few players play them, only a few recorders / writers write to them.

I use -R for single use, and +RW for multi use.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
