Hi there, anyone recommend a roofing service they have used? I've looked at yellow pages, but it's a bit of a lottery, so would appreciate recommendations if you have them.
Thanks in advance.

Well that was a can of worms.
During the summer my wife got a roofing firm in to block up some holes that birds had been using (there were no birds there).
We had no problems with the roof before he came. But he said there were issues that needed addressing. He wanted £400 to put it right. We hadn't money so refused.
Shortly after started to notice water running down outside of the house...but only after he had visited.
I can't prove it, but my gut tells me he did something intentional or unintentional. Or may it was just coincidence.
Anyhow, I forced myself to get three quotes...which was a struggle, even getting people to reply.
One fella, came while I was at work, said it was at least £1400. Basically said roof was built wrong.
Another fella came in at £600, but didn't go up the ladder...visual inspection.
A whole load of others didn't answer or return calls (always good sign of how they'll act on site)
So third guy, I texted him, quick reply, he told me to call him that evening. He answered, listened, said no problems, he was busy but would swing by and took a look. He did, called me when he said he would...was a gentleman.
He told me what he was going to do, told me it was bad workmanship had caused issue, would cost me £150 to put it right, less than an hours work.
Hard to explain, but he was patient and authentic, just seemed trustworthy.
Moral...I didn't pick him because he was cheapest. I picked him because of all the other signals I was getting. But I now realise getting 3 quotes can be time consuming, and it's not about finding cheapest...it's about meeting enough tradesmen, hearing the issues (do they match up), finding one you are happy to work with (manners), and one that your senses tell you to trust. Oh and ALWAYs ask here first...a recommendation is the cherry on top, but still do the three quotes!
It's not failsafe, but it's just the right way to do it. PM me if you need the details of guy I used.0 -
