goodwill gesture for Furniture on Interest free finance

Options
HI Folks

Hope someone can help on this one...

I've had furniture replaced from a large supplier, and their customer service ( or lack of it ) was an absolute nightmare from start to finish.

They've agreed to a £100 gesture of goodwill, to apologise & compensate me for my time off work, and all the hassle they've caused over the last 12 months.

Question is : The furniture is on interest free credit, and they have said that they are going to credit back the finance company with this £100 to allow them to deduct from the balance outstanding, despite me requesting a cheque.

I'm already actually out of pocket from taking unpaid leave from work to give them access to the property for delivery, and they never showed up on at least 2 occasions, so a cheque would certainly help offset the money I've lost, but if it goes to the finance company, Its going to be another 18 months before I see the benefit, and I really need the money now.

Where do I stand in requesting a cheque, instead of credit back to the finance company ?

Many thanks to all you Moneysavers

  • There'll probably be something in the contract you signed stating that if you take it on finance it'll go to the finance company. I highly doubt that you'll be able to get it without a heck of a lot of hassle.

Technically you're already seeing the benefit, you have £100 less debt to pay off now.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

as its only a gesture of goodwill no rights
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

As said you would not be entitled to the money back in cash - however its certainly worth asking them again and pointing out that you are currently out of pocket and would appreciate their goodwill gesture being paid to you direct.
