What's the best way to sell an item of jewellery?

Not sure what board this should go under, so apologies if it's the wrong one.
I recently won a ring through a wedding magazine priced by them at over £1500. I don't want to risk dropping it down the toilet like I did with my last engagement ring, so have decided to sell it.
Do I put it on Ebay? with the link to the competition and price. Or do I go and ask jewellers if they would buy it? Or do I take it to a pawn shop? And what kind of price should I be looking to get for it?
Thanks

Take it to a few different jewellers for a valuation & then once you have a true idea of how much the ring is worth, see if any of the jewellers want to buy it.0 -
Probably about £750, huge mark-up on jewellery. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
