Registering for tax

Hi everyone

After reading this board for quite a while I decided to earn some extra money from Swagbucks, Global Test Market, Clixsense and Slice the Pie so I registered for self assessment and got sent a unique taxpayer reference etc. I am already in full time work so I was expecting a tax rate of 20% and was happy with that. I've since made about £50 from Swagbucks, GTM and Slice the Pie and decided that the rewards really aren't worth the effort i've put in.

I noticed on the self assessment site that once I had logged in it asked if I wanted to register for taxes which is what I thought self assessment was. This whole thing seems pretty confusing and I feel a bit out of my depth. I would like to just close my self assessment account, pay whatever I owe them and forget about it. If I phone them would they be ok with this or have I opened a can of worms i'm going to have trouble closing? I would just phone them and ask myself but I want to do that on Thursday (working Mon-Wed) early morning when i'm off and it's a lot quieter as i've already tried a few times and been left holding on for ages.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My suggestion would just be to ring the self-assessment tax helpline.

Any tax owed would be worked out dependant on your earnings from your offline job.

I can't remember specifically now but I believe the registering for taxes part, using your UTR, is for online self-assessment. I've done this and I pay class 2 voluntary NIC's, so I've had my six monthly bill for that recently which came in the post rather than online.

Nothing is straight forward with them LOL
