Well that's what we thought, why us?. We were in the perfect position, us as first time buyers and the sellers having already purchased a new property to move into with capital, so no chains. Yet Nationwide let us down hugely. We'd probably have moved in by now or at least have a completion date. Now it's not looking likely before Christmas.

So yes just make a complaint, not only may you be offered some compensation but most importantly you'll get a single point of contact who will deal with everything from that point to the mortgage offer itself.
  • Thanks so much - I made a complaint on Monday afternoon and 12 hours later we received our DIP, plus compensation, and as you said someone to take care of our case and speed things up. We are doing our full application over the phone tomorrow.

    The complaint definitely helped!

Shame you have to complain to get any service.

  • I know - it's a terrible way to operate. Clearly something can be done in these situations, despite what you get told over the phone every day for 3 weeks.

Nice one I am happy that you finally got what you have been waiting for.

It is a real shame that it takes a complaint for someone to take ownership of the problem. If enough people do it with good reason though it will prompt a change eventually. I spent a good amount of time offering my opinions and constructive criticism on how the service can be improved after our complaint and I can only hope it would be passed to someone who can actually do something about it so other people don't have the same problem.

Whether that happens or not is beyond me but I'm sure I'll find out in 5 years when I come to choose a new mortgage product or by viewing these forums.
  • Just to turn this on its head i'm receiving great service from Nationwide so far.

23/11/14 - Applied for DIP online and was accepted.
24/11/14 - Sent in wage slips as requested for DIP.
29/11/14 - Wage slips received back home.
01/12/14 - Full application made and submitted in
02/12/14 - Valuation booked in for following day.
03/12/14 - Valuation complete. Text/Email shortly after saying congrats formal mortgage offer is in the post.

Less than 48 hours from the full application being submitted to having an answer/offer is pretty good I thought? Or is that normal?

I dare say it could have probably been quicker if we had applied for the full mortgage as soon as we had our DIP!
