Hi young mummy, welcome and congratulations for being so sensible planning and trying to save, wish I had done more of that years ago :D

There is so much advice on here that will help, from shopping to meal planning, budgeting calculators etc. plus plenty of support.

I wish you all the best with your plans.

  • Hi everyone

sorry about not updating you all. i keep getting half way through and then get distracted and loose it all.

    the plan till new year.
do not get into debt for xmas like i have all the other years.
use up the food we already have
have as many no spend days as possible
    sell some stuff

    the financial update

    so here goes :o

we are at the very start of our journey. last week we had no savings at all but there has been a slight improvement we now have £104 in our savings account :)
its small but its a start. over the coming weeks it may be difficult to put up as much as i would like due to xmas but at least we have made a start we don't get paid for 2 weeks now but all our money has been budgeted accordingly so we have no reason to have to dip into the 'savings pot'

any extra money will go in the savings pot... i hope to list some stuff on faceb%^k selling sites and e&ay to make a small dent in the finances and clear the clutter :)

thats all from me at the moment i hope everyone is well and hugs to all that need/want one

  • another fact about me which i think we help us the most on our journey

growing up my father was always very thrifty (my mother the opposite) luckily esp the last few years i am now very much if not worse than my father. i hunt out the best price for everything dont pay a penny more than i need to for anything ... i use cloth nappies which has already paid for its self. i invested in a sewing machine last yr and i make do and mend as much as possible for example last summer c1 needed some shorts and i begrudged paying the price in the shops for a pair and couldnt get any at a good price second hand ... i found 3 pairs of play jeans in his drawer which were in good condition apart from some holes at the knee and lower so i upcycled them into some shorts he loves them and i love the fact they didnt cost me a penny and if i hadnt of upcycled them would be in the bin :)

i make the best of what we have ... we live in a village surrounded by berry bushes and farms .. in the summer we go blackberry picking and i get to know the farmers when its time for them to pick there crop they let me pick up the ones left behind. i wash them etc and they are amost always good enough to eat ..i try and make every penny stretch as far as possible and love it when i can get something for free people think im crazy but at the end of the day if you look after the pennies the pounds look after their selves as they say :)

tumble dryer is on the blink ... hoping it will last till after Christmas at least.

i have noticed c1 white polo shirts are covered in stains and were heading for the bin today until i heard about bleach bathing whites. i am giving it a shot as they would of been heading for the bin anyway so if it doesnt work its nothing lost and if it does work hopefully he can get a few more wears out of them :) i am also giving partners white socks ago as they always look dirty even tho they have been washed ... im not silly with the kids they have dark socks to avoid this problem :rotfl:

3 items listed on eb@y hope to have 7 more listings before i go to bed tonight ... every penny helps !

i have loads of stuff i need to sell but never seem to get round to it. need to make more of an effort for this

    Hi youngmummy.

Just had a read through and I'm impressed with how motivated are you. I started a diary recently on here and it really does help to keep you focused when writing things down.

Sounds like you have some good ideas for saving/earning extra money.

Congrats on the £100+ start in your house fund. Long may the saving continue :)

  • payment received for am item i had for sale. should receive around £4 after fees and postage its not alot but it all adds up.
i have 5 items on ebay and have a few items to list on fb page :)

im feeling hopeful today. but this is only the start we have a very long road ahead of us im hoping to save £10,000 by the end of next year. should be do able i probably could make at least £1000 with all the stuff i need to sell and with a good budget can find at least £8000 ourselves so £8000 is the first aim and £10,000 will be the second aim. anything above that will be more than a bonus
