My style is that I have wooden curtain poles with wooden curtain rings on and that my curtains hang from those wooden curtain rings.
No problem back with ones in last house and no problem with some of them in current house BUT I have two different style/slightly wider than I've used before curtain poles in one room and the wooden curtain rings I am using with them are the ones that came with those curtain poles - so they should fit and work okay.
But....I am having to pull and tug about on those curtains to get them to close across on those poles. In the process, the curtain hooks keep coming out of the little metal "rings" on the base of those curtain pole rings.
How can I get them to work nice and normally and smoothly, as I am used to?
I've had a quick look on Amazon wondering if there's any "indoors" equivalent of WD40 its possible to use for this. There is, but its not cheap and I don't want to spend the money basically.
Is there anything I am likely to have in anyway that will do the trick instead? Wondering whether to put a bit of cooking oil onto some kitchen paper towel and rub that on (or would it transmit downwards to my curtains and get oily stains on them)? or perhaps a bit of Vaseline?
Any suggestions please of something I have in already or that would be dirt cheap?

I`ve used furniture polish with some success in the past.0

I can't really visualise the problem, but could you rub the pole with a candle? That's what is suggested for sticking sash windows.0

Mr sheen or a silicone based furniture spray should make them glide more easily0

I'd second a good going-over with furniture polish. Take care to spray it onto your duster, not the rail. You might find more dust than you expect, so try two or three dusters!***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***

Old fashioned polish in a flat tin might be better than the spray-on sort.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Thank you for suggestions.....errrm....I don't actually have such a thing as furniture polish either...
I do have candles, so that could be a possibility, ie rubbing over the rail with a candle..0 -
I rubbed a bit of fairy liquid along the top of mine. That did the trick.0

My nan used to use bar soap for the same problem0

yes all good suggestions - soap, candle or solid wax. they will all help - and if your drawers stick - try these on the runners. or even a bit of WD40 on metal runners. the first three work on zips too!0

Thank you.
Several possibilities there for me. Think I'll start on the candlewax (ie drag a nightlight type candle out of its holder and rub it along) to start with and bear in mind the washing-up liquid and bar soap remedies if need be.
Thought there had to be a way to save the £12 or so I'd have had to send Amazon to get the purpose-made product if I just asked on here...0
