Cheapest biological washing powder?

Just saw an item on Superscrimpers about using biological washing powder to clean out a washing machine. I don't buy this normally (using it on my clothes gives me a rash) so does anyone know where I can buy some really cheaply?

Thanks!

PS In case anyone wants to know - they said to clean out the powder drawer; then put an old towel in the drum, add a cupful of biological washing powder in the powder drawer and then run a very hot wash. (Don't know why the towel ?)

Probably Asda Smartprice as you can buy a small box of that for £1. There are others cheaper per kg but for what you want it for it wouldn't be cost effective to buy a large box.

Soda crystals and white vinegar will do the same and you won't run the risk of residue irritating you. Just put a mug full of soda crystals in the drum (without the mug, obviously ;)) and run a boil wash, and then do the same with a mug full of white vinegar. There'll be a bit of a vinegar pong whilst the machine is running but it'll disperse really quickly once you open the door.

Won't a hot wash negate the use of bio powder by denaturing the enzymes? I believe that happens at 40?

Good point. I thought it was okay to use 60 degrees but not above? Will check on the packet when I buy it (and thanks maman - will check out Asda).

I'm no expert but, as most machines are cold fill only, won't the water slowly heat up so the enzymes will be active for at least the initial part of the wash cycle?

Cold water will be at around 10 degrees now so it will take some time for the water to be heated above 40 degrees.

The only parts that might not get some enzyme action will be the pump and drainage.

Maybe a 40 wash followed by a 90 wash is the solution.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

You need about 60C to do the job of making the enzymes really active. Apparently cold water is not as good at removing organic material, as per instructions below
