I bid on a Miele washing machine on ebay for my son and we got it for £10.50 ! Only one other person bid.Its not a digital one and i think about 10 years old but was owned by a pensioner who is now in a Care Home who used it once every 2 weeks.We didnt know that info when we bid for it.He has picked it just waiting for his dad to plumb in but there is not a mark on it and as far as we can tell it works.Bargain as most people on ebay are bidding for the Digital ones which as i said in other post i dont think they are as good as non digital as people seem to have more problems with them.
Not sure what you mean about 'digital' machines, though. What's digital about them? I don't see a difference on the website, and there's no suggestion anywhere I can find that 'digital' machines (whatever that means) are less reliable.
I'm sure modern Miele machines will not prove as long lasting as the ones made 20 years ago - but that (sadly) applies to all brands.
The solution would be to make 10 year warranties compulsory for all manufacturers - that would put paid to all the washing machines with a deliberately shortened 5 year design life.0 -
We bought a Miele in 2004. It went wrong in 2013 but the entire drum was replaced free of charge.
Our usages was low (no nippers) so maybe we were just unlucky, but I was very glad to have that 10 year warranty.0 -
I put a Miele (WDA110), 1400rpm A++ Energy Rated 7kg, on Hotukdeals yesterday: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/miele-wda110-1400rpm-a-energy-rated-7kg-load-capacity-washing-machine-white-649-2066707
£649 plus 10% off with the code (still working). The £75 Cashback offer (post#2 on the above thread) takes this to £509.10, promo runs 21st November 2014 to 31st January 2015.
This one has a 5 Year Warranty (post#3 on the above link).
As for electronic panels, I would say, YES they can have their problems (over-zealous cleaning can get water in there and fritz the electronic display...at least, I think it happened with my not-very-well-made Servis machine's electronic panel, in no way comparable to the build quality of a Miele. Though I did read the Servis' display was prone to failures, so I may have just been another unlucky customer).
All machines are PCB-timer controlled, weren't older machines controlled by mechanical timers?
With anything, if you are sensible with it, it should be fine.0 -
One thing I did read about washing machines (I read UK Whitegoods for a few hours before I bought my new machine) is that many who are in the business of repairing washers *hate* the modern "green" machines available nowadays.
Less water for rinsing and washing means that clothes don't get washed properly (especially on boil washes), and modern machines are notorious for very poor rinse results, no matter what the brand. I always do an extra rinse anyway...modern washing machines are a nightmare for those with allergies.
The Admin wants, as well as an Energy, Wash, Spin Rating already denoted on new machines, a Rinse Rating.
Some in the repair business even seek out old, built-like-a-tank washers to fix up and repair (I read of someone doing up an old Hoover Electron, apparently one of the last built to a decent standard Hoover model available!!). Others even go for old top loaders!
I think the fact that washers are built to be irrepairable (some have sealed tubs/drums nowadays), are worse build quality (except for Miele) and worse at doing what they're supposed to do (washing and rinsing) is pretty outrageous!0 -
Digital i mean its got like a computer in it so it pops up with Error and some numbers.I always see problems with error numbers on the new Miele washing machines.0
