End of mortgage and Deeds??

Options
Ive paid off my mortgage 3 weeks ago.
My mortgage account has been successfully closed, and verified over the phone.

Ive received nothing from the bank though - Nattiest.

Rang back and they said they will get another completion statement out to me.

However, they also said they do not hold the deeds to my house. Since its all online now, they will send something to Land Registry and the deeds will automatically change into my name. I can request a copy of the deeds if I wish, at my own cost.

Is this correct?? So now all I do is wait for my completion statement and do not need to do anything more??
Should I contact Land Registry next week and enquire??

Bit lost as to what I should do next!

Thanks

Deeds are now electronic.. Go to Land Registry site and pay a few quid for copy of the register.

How long should I give it??
The mortgage was paid off 3 weeks ago now, but I still haven't received my completion statement - should I wait of that first, or should it be done by now??

Also, if the deeds haven't been updated to my name, what the next process???

    Thanks

My guess is that it will be sorted now. Go to LR official site and request copy. If not updated chase up mortgage company and then try again.

Official complaint if not updated in a reasonable time but have a little patience.

Does it not depend on when the house was built if the deeds are electronic or not? I bought a new build a few years ago where the deeds where electronic but then moved to an older house where the deeds are now with the nationwide until the mortgage is paid.
  • I guess the Land Registry will be able to reveal all?

Still conceivably possible to find an unregistered house but highly unlikely

From memory compulsory registration came in about 1990 but it was compulsory in most areas before this. If the op does a quick search at the Land Registry he will find out for certain.

As an aside if anyone does have an unregistered property it is worthwhile doing a voluntary registration rather than waiting until it is sold.

  • I will pay for a title deed this week - I received a letter from Nattiest to state my mortgage account has been repaid in full etc today. I just wanted to give it some time for the changes to take place with the deed, just wasn't sure how long the process would take. I don't want to pay £15 for the title deed to find it hasn't changed yet, and then have to repay another £15 for another copy to see if the name has changed or not...!

    Thank you for your replies.
  • Its £3 - I suspect you are going via a 'spoof' account and paying over the odds !!!!!!!!!!!
