My new provider confirmed they would have accepted protected rights without issue.
Ok, so we appear to have eliminated the two things that I would have put as likely reasons. Cant think of any more for the moment.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. Sent off a dated letter to them with evidence of what has happened, and explaining all.
Thanks you two for the advice, I will let you know how I get on.0 -

Thats a good point. They may do now because protected rights were reclassified as non-protected in 2012. However, this is 10 years ago and many workplace schemes would not take in protected rights back then.
"A day" in April 2006 also made changes to protected rights and a number of schemes changed their acceptance after that.
Out of interest, is the NPI pension left behind protected rights or non protected rights? (it may say former protected rights).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). All I can tell you is that my new provider says they have a letter from NPI stating their were no protected rights.0 -
If you have formally complained to NPI, they should tell you the time within which they should have provided their response (8 weeks maybe?? someone here will know).
If you don't hear anything satisfactory within that time limit, then you can contact the Pensions Advisory Service for help / advice.0 -
Dear D,
one other NPI oddity...
..you may still have more than one policy. I have two.
The policy number is now the same but the start date being different is the only way you can tell them apart. This happened when NPI was taken over. Before then there was a policy no. then a suffix e.g 123456-100 & 123456-200.
It happened to me because I had a policy which became paid up. Had a new job with a pension scheme. Started a new one when I didn't have a company scheme again.
Caused a fair bit of confusion as they sent statements for each policy at different times of the year so I was puzzled why the values seemed to oscillate!
regards,
Colin0
