Curry's Whatever Happens - iPad

Hi
I purchased an iPad 2 from Currys in 2011 and at the time I agreed to their "Whatever happens" plan for around £11.99 per month as the guy who sold me it said that if there were ever any problems e.g hardware faults or drops, spills etc I would be able to return it to the store for an instant replacement.
Since upgrading to iOS 8 the iPad 2 has been painfully slow, to the point that it is very frustrating to use. This doesn't appear to be an isolated incident as there are forums on Apple and Macrumors with thousands of users experiencing the same issues. Some users have recommended a whole load of ideas like restoring the iPad as new and that has made it a little faster but not like before it was upgraded.
Apple has just released iOS 8.1.1 which promised to improve performance on iPad 2 however this hasn't made much difference.
As background I have been using iOS devices since the first iPhone.
I've spoken with Apple tech and they have talked me through all manner of things like restoring from iTunes, switching off some of the newer features however their conclusion was that newer versios of the software always slow down the oldest models.
I took it to my local Curry's store and the guys I spoke to didn't have a clue and informed me that it would need to be "sent for repair" and an instant replacement wasn't an option.
How can they repair it? It's not broken, it's just much slower since the latest upgrade. This is affecting thousands of people all over the world, with the exact same issues.
Am I right to expect a replacement in store? I don't expect the latest model and would be happy with a refurbished model, just as long as it wasn't this slow.
Any advice from Curry's employees would be appreciated!
Many thanks

Sorry, wrong thread I think??0

Did they confirm it had a fault?
If yes, they should replace it. If no, why would it need repairing?
(It might have been better if you had accidentally damaged it - assuming you had a back-up!)
All computer hardware slows down over time, the only fix would be to wipe clean and restore and that wouldn't fix it completely because the latest operating systems are designed for the latest hardware and don't run as fast on older devices.
Of course you can't downgrade your iOS version to one that might run better though!
It's almost as if Apple want you to buy a new device...0 -

Without wanting to sound rude... I think one of them was a bit simple and the other was too busy playing with his phone.0 -
iPad Whateverhappens have never been on an instant replacement basis (that's for cheaper, sub-£150 products) - though I'm also quite sure it's never been £11.99 per month.
It'll cover any hardware issues, whether failure or mishap, but software issues normally will be corrected by a reset. You'll need to check your T&Cs, but I'm pretty sure it excludes problems caused by "withdrawal of service by a third party", which I would say is the closest issue here. You can send it to the repair centre, and they can check there is no hardware fault, but if Apple's software upgrade has slowed down all iPad 2s, then that's not a fault with your device.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

You've been paying £11.99 a month for over 36 months! That's around £436 you've spent!
You could have bought a brand new iPad for that!
Older generation iPads do get slower on the new operating systems. You need to revert back from ios8 to ios7. Although this does mean some newer apps won't work anymore.
It's not really a fault currys can fix as replacing with another ipad2 will still be slow on ios80 -
Please tell me you've not been paying £11.99 a month since 2011 ???0
