still financially connected?

Hi,

I read recently that even after you have split up with someone who you have had a joint account with and a mortgage that they can still be affecting your credit report? This happened about 8 months ago and whilst my Credit Expert shows no details of this my score is lower than it was, I read on here that I need to disassociate and have found the Experian form but it does not let me as it asks for credit report number which shows them on.

Any help or advice would be great because I have never heard of this...

  • You need to get your report from which ever if not all the credit agencies which are reporting the association. Once you get these they will have a reference number on them to use on those forms to disassociate. I did this myself a few months ago with an ex partner once our joint commitment ended.

Your report score (for what its worth - and that's not much) on your Experian or other credit report is not affected in any way by the associations as you are not authorised (and therefore in obtaining your report the CRA) to obtain the third (associated) party's data.

If you feel you may need/wish to dissociate with someone I suggest the easiest way is to obtain a free 30 day trial from Checkmyfile (the following link expands on why we recommend them and passes you through to them - http://www.themortgagelady.co.uk/html/credit_reports.html) and use their excellent tool to check which of the CRAs is reporting an association and enables you to file a disassociation request with each.

Don't forget to cancel the trial (simple call to 0800 number) if you don't wish to continue the subscription.

  • I had an associate search footprint on my file back in January this year due to my ex looking at something from Lloyds banking group and it has also been pointed out when applying for things such as a mortgage etc that an associate can affect you.

    Hi Dave4567,

If it is an older association it may be recorded at a previous address. Make sure all your previous addresses have been added to your CreditExpert profile, so that any information in your name (including associations) will be retrieved on your report.

You can add previous address information by logging into CreditExpert and going to the 'Information Centre', then click on 'Update my details'. Under 'Address Information', click 'Add a previous address'.

If you send in the form with your current report reference number on it we would be able to check to see if a disassociation was needed and let you know when it is completed.

    Regards
    Neil
