  • When I lived on my own I could easily manage on £10 a week. I liked to eat cheapo sausages, instant mash and tinned veg a lot; glad I've grown out of that phase! I dont like milk/bread/coffee and have an allotment too which helped.

Now my partner has moved in the budget is about £25pw as I now have to buy bread/milk/coffee and sandwich fillings for his lunch every day and he has a much more varied diet than me!

We have a lidl, tesco and a discount shop within walking distance so don't even have to account for fuel when shopping!

Good point Maman. I only eat Quorn stuff as there is no cheaper alternative. I don't 'insist' on it but the vegetarian ranges in own brand tend to be very small and don't stretch to mince, 'chicken' pieces etc. The Quorn stuff is horrifically expensive for what it is but there ain't much choice otherwise really.

Is that for 3 meals a day? What are you having?

I notice that Sainsbury's offer meat-free chicken pieces. The current offer on that works out at £5/kilo. Their offer on Quorn meat-free chicken pieces equates to £5.56/kilo. No idea how the two products compare other than price (pack sizes are the same).
