Hello, all,
I use a neti pot and I wondered, which is the best way of boiling water, that gets rid of all the bacteria and stuff, a kettle or pan? I use a kettle solely for the purpose of boiling neti water so it is always clean. I read that you need to boil water for 3-5 minutes to make sure it is clean enough, but does that three minutes mean from the moment the kettle is switched on, as it takes three minutes from that point to when it clicks off, or does it mean the water in a pan being boiled for three minutes once the water has reached boiling and is bubbling? Confusing! Thanks

3 - 5 minutes of actual boiling.
In truth, this won't make the water absolutely sterile, but for the purpose you want, it will do!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Thanks, Tooth. If I am putting the water through a water filter jug first will that make any difference? Boiling it will be a bit of an extra pain, is all.0

In a pan, I mean. I already filter it (as I have hard water) then boil it in a clean, seperate kettle.0

Great avatar, by the way.0

Depends how often you thoroughly clean out the jug!
If its like most people and hardly ever, then the water from it will probably have many more bugs than the tap water!! Especially when the nice protective chlorine is filtered out!How to find a dentist.

Both ways are good. Both will remove the impurities.0

Filtering does not remove bacteria, so even water that has gone through a clean jug and new filter, needs boiling.
In fact, one of the reasons some people dislike filter jugs is that the water gets more contaminated by bacteria as it goes through.
Others of course, like to remove some of the impurities before boiling.0 -

Boiling actually concentrates 'impurities'!
It kills bugs, but impurities like nitrates and minerals stay in the water in the pan as the steam that is driven off is 'pure' water! Therefore, after boiling - the water remaining has a slightly greater concentration of other stuff than before boiling!
So as Jackyann says above - filter then boil. How to find a dentist.
