Pre employment screening advice

I have just been offered a job working on a self-employed basis with a company that will provide me with work. In order to proceed with the job offer I need to provide them with a current verification check by a recognised verification, referencing or pre-employment screening provider. They recommended using http://www.c-r-services.co.uk/ and requesting a self employed autonomous check which will cost £49.65.
This seems a bit steep just for something I only need to use once and wondered if anyone else has been in the same situation and if so whether they could recommend any decent alternatives. Thankyou.

Would the job be driving related by any chance?0
-
Yes it would working as a Self Employed Owner Driver where a company called Jobs For Drivers supplies you with work.0

I would strongly advise against taking this any further. "Steer well clear" is the pun.
It is difficult to see that you would ever get any work - but a company with which they probably have connections makes money out of you by taking the referencing fee. By taking the fee from you in this way, the driving company can say they don't charge an up-front fee for finding you work (which would be illegal).
If you look at their website it is really all about getting people to do the delivery/driving work and it is difficult to see how they really get the work itself for the drivers to do.
I'm glad you asked the question in the first place as it has probably saved you some money!0 -
Hallo, I'm glad that I found this forum, because I had the same offer from that company. The result u can see now on their web pages..They not recruiting now,and drivers will not receive any work due to some technical problems...Isn't it clear now???:T0
