  • I'd like to sign up for this too please! I've saved around £2300 in 2014, so for 2015 I'm going to aim to save £2500!

That said if I get a new (and better paying) job then I'll be increasing that, but £2500 is to start with!

Can I join in again. I managed to save £5575.79 in 2014 (have just sent details in) so would like to try for £6000 in 2015.

    Good luck everyone

  • Thanks Twiggy_34, that pretty much sums up my thinking and hopefully I will be more prepared for life's little financial blips!

I'm going to join in as it might keep me on track for paying my mum back. I'm going to aim for £7500. So averaging £625 a month ideally.

My nan helps as she gives us some money for the bills with living here so I might hit the target if I work hard and am lucky. I'm going to include the money I got from the delayed flight so I can keep track.

It would be more but I'm also saving for Australia in 2016 so would rather set myself to succeed rather than fail.

Will be following with interest too

Happy new year all! Starting 2015 with £500 stashed away, more to come before the month is out :D
  • Happy New Year everyone, all the best to us all in reaching our targets. And thanks to Slowlyfading for keeping us on the straight and narrow again!

I've reduced my target to £10,000 from the full £12,000 as I want to get a few things done round the house and want to recarpet and maybe put in a real wood floor downstairs. I paid off my mortgage in November, so feel I can do stuff I wouldn't let myself previously. I've also been very canny and rather than renew the kitchen just updated it and bought new appliances and it looks/works so much better.

I wouldn't be hugely surprised if I were made redundant this year, so I am going for a balance of spend and save while I can afford to do both.

Good luck everyone! I am looking forward to reading about all your efforts in 2015, it really is a motivator.

  • Morning all.

Now that we are officially in challenge territory, I can transfer the payments a day (from the PAD thread) I have been making and put them into my savings account. So I have kicked off with £293.68.

    Happy New Year Everyone!

Can I ask what methods you've got to keep track of your savings? I'm using an iPad app (Daily Budget) to track all expenses and to see at the end of the month how much I've got left over. That way I track spendings when they occurred (e.g. on my credit card) rather than when they're paid off (usually the next month, apart from the 0% card I've currently got).
Only exception is my annual train ticket where I've split the cost into five payments for this year as, even though the cost has occurred last year, I'm really paying this off on a 0% deal.

I put £950/month away into three regular savers (3%, 4%, 6%) but any remaining money is moved between accounts and I'll only know at the end of each month how much I've saved beyond this so will be updating on the last day of each month.
