Can I also add my name to the list, as a not so gentle nudge to push up the deposit savings?
I'll punt for a £10K target (which allows for some summer madness) or allows me to see how much I can better that if I'm disciplined!
Either way should be fun and motivational.0 -
Morning all.
Please can I join in? I would like to have a target of £7,500.00.

Hi, well i've decided to split my savings into different pots this year. It's hit me that more than likely just as I have the money together for the house deposit my little car will give up- so i've decided to make prevision for this even though it will increase the length of time I need to save. I would also like to put a little towards a holiday! Still aiming for £5000 all going to plan. Hopefully this thread will keep me motivated!Mortgage free wannabe #580

This is what I started doing around 6 months ago; as well as the usual annual costs like car services or MOTs and dental bills etc, I have a few expensive items on my wish list for 2015/16 and having a separate pot designated for spends helps me get around the psychological dismay at the idea of spending my savings! I actually think it's a healthy compromise with regard to building up good savings, regardless of what they're to be used for in the long term, as well as being able to spend and enjoy (some of) your money at the same time. It helped me get through this christmas without affecting my savings so it's worked well so far.
I set myself a minimum of £250 a month to go into my long term savings and aim to put a minimum of £50 into the spending pot each month, however, in reality I usually have anything up to an additional £300 each month that I can choose to boost either account with. Because my medium term goal for the "spending" pot is to have enough to treat myself a to a new (to me) car in the next couple of years I've taken to splitting it in the middle by putting £300 into each account when I have that much to play with. Obviously, and sadly, not all months are that good though!£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000
