Savings strategy for 2015 is going to have to involve a moving target for me. I'm getting married in July, so going to split the year up.

Jan-April 5th = save like mad to try and have a total of £20k in savings put away
April 6th - July = save to spend on the wedding (so I don't have to dip into money already saved). This won't be declared for purposes of the challenge.
August- December = save like mad to try and get to £25k.

Really feel like this thread will keep me on track, I've really enjoyed it over the last couple of years.

Slowlyfading- could you please add a target of £4,100 against me please, I'm challenger number 7! Thanks :)
  • Feeling very excited about this challenge! In preparation, I've open two new savings accounts today, upgraded my current account to get a better rate of interest and sorted my financial spreadsheet out :D Love being back into MSE!

Have tried with YNAB but just can't get my head round it! The balance always seems wrong and when I try to link my Barclaycard it's chaos! So the trusty spreadsheet has been revamped with new tabs, new totals and a new format.

One problem I have is that I am saving about £350 per month for other things (NYC for my 40th this year and the old insurances/car repairs/birthdays etc). So on top of that I need to find another £500 per month  It's a pity I can't count those as savings cos I'm sure I'd hit the £6k no bother...but what would be the challenge in that? :D

    Roll on 2nd January!!

Aw, what the heck let's give this a go.

Please add me to the ever-growing list for 2015 and put me down for £12,000.

I'm a bit nervous about what the future holds - who isn't these days? - but I'm hoping that this thread will provide the incentive and support I'll probably need as the year unfolds.

To begin with I'll be utilising the following:
TSB Classic Plus current a/c opened earlier this month
First Direct Regular Saver a/c after switching to FD from HBoS this month
Stocks & Shares ISA opened with HL 10/2014
    SIPP opened with HL 05/2013

The money-trail should look something like this:
1- £500pm from FD current a/c to TSB Classic Plus
2- Once the £2k limit is reached with TSB, move £500pm back to FD
3- Move £300pm from FD current a/c to FD Regular Saver a/c
4- Move £200pm from FD current a/c to HL S&S ISA
5- Additional contributions to HL S&S ISA as & when available

This doesn't involve me contributing to my SIPP yet as my employer doesn't currently run a scheme & I want to see what they have to offer once their staging point has arrived (don't know when), at which point I'll definitely be putting in as much as I can to the SIPP. I'm also considering suggesting a salary-sacrifice in order to get things moving quicker with the SIPP. Also, there's a possible bonus due each year which I intend to put straight into the SIPP.

OK that's me done, deep breaths and into 2015 we go. Good luck everyone.

Can I join please? Put me down for £12k
    2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/3000
  • Please could I join? I am aiming for £2400. Hopefully I'll be able to increase my target later in the year but I don't want to demotivate myself by starting with a huge target which i'll probably get nowhere near.
Operation House Move £11993.60/£25000 (47% achieved)
    Save £12k in 2015 #135 (£390.21 / £2400) (16%)
  • For 2015, I'm going to try to be better at setting myself monthly targets and have only 2 savings accounts for the money so its easier to keep track of.

    Good Luck everyone.

    Hi!

I'm not sure exactly how much I can save yet, but I'm sure £12,000 is more than feasible. Can you put me down, please?
  • Family holiday will eat into amount saved in 2015. So take £10k or so off for that, and I'll be aiming for £20k in 2015.
