My Christmas pay has been received this morning, so the 2015 challenge begins!

    £485.28 cash and £202 S&S ISA = £687.28 for January :T

    Signature updated.
  • For me, its about working hard to achieve the total - so I go for a target that is achievable but means a bit of hard work, overtime, ebay selling etc.

I have long term aspirations and seeing a target and taking the necessary small steps to get there isn't boring to me... its exciting and actually keeps me motivated to work for it!
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

Apologies if I've missed the obvious but relatively new round here. What signing up achieve? I have my dd's set up for cash and s+s isa and my kids ctf, plus work pension is fixed and deducted at source.

If you have a savings target just set up a dd and leave it alone. If you lose your income all bets are off.

In accordance with my salary, my dd would be for £150. That 'only' amounts to £1,800 in a year. My target is £2,000. I know I can cut bits here and there and collect other money (rounding down the balance in my bank account / surveys / interest from other savings / etc) so I give myself a target to encourage me to aim higher. Works for me.
It's not a criticism, I fully agree re. investing for children, just not on the approach to investing. Making the payments and having the discipline to keep the money invested will result in very similar results, all things considered.

It's ok, I didn't feel criticised :) Believe me, I have had people properly laugh at me, and others shake their heads at me when I have told them stuff like that before. My approach may well not be the best one but it works for me :p
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000
  • SF could I change my target please to £4000 for 2015 please? My initial target of £12k is totally unrealistic now, until I get another job. I am number 004. Thank you.
  • Put me down for £20k, it's ambitious for me but that's the point I guess!
