Ash Vac?

Moved into a house with a multi fuel stove in spring and am now using the stove quite regularly( also have oil fired central heating)
I have been looking at Ash vacuum cleaners Are they worth it ? Also which is best electric or non-electric( we have a Henry to use with non-electric).
Opinions welcomed.

  • I have used both, the one with the electric motor I got from Coopers of Storford (30 something £s) and is really powerful. However make sure the filter is fitted securely to the motor or you get the ash blown back into the room and boy does it make a mess.

The 'non-electric version I got from Aldi (£18) and works just as well, the only disadvantage is that you have to use your vacuum cleaner (Dysons don't fit too well) and this means having to manage two pieces of equipment.

With both you have to clean the filter on a regular basis (every 2 - 3 days).

I tend to use the one with the built in motor but thats my choice so I suppose it depends on how much you want to pay versus ease of use
