Preparing for Winter V

Just bumping this thread as NOW is the time to be picking up the last of the winter stock from last year that will be much reduced in the shops. KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR BARGAINS the goods won't deteriorate in storage, things like thermals, gloves, socks etc. will be fine stored away until this coming winter and I've even seen snow shovels and sledges of late at very low prices to shift them, worth the investment!!!0

I had a delivery of logs two weeks ago when the summer prices began...reduction of 8%.
OH is busy making paper logs and they are drying really well at the moment.
A friend has been giving us pallets which have been dismantled and stacked ready for burning. Before anyone makes the comment...they are untreated/ unpainted!
I like the idea that most of my winter heat is already paid for.0 -
Thanks for the reminders to start stocking up fuel for the winter.
Have a multi-fuel stove so now is the time to do it when the prices are lower.

Coal just been delivered in the persisting rain! It's so miserable, I might light the fire even though it's nearly June!

Started the school uniform shop for September already as have 2 lots to buy this year, my little man is starting big nursery!
Been sorting through all the clothes and bedding recently too, got rid of loads and organised the stuff we have. Kids have extra blankets and winter duvets and we have a couple of good throws and an electric blanket.
Hoping to be moving after cams so trying to get rid of as much as I can that we don't need.Living the simple life0 -

Lyn, thanks for bumping this thread - need this now I'm raring to go again with all things MSE!
We're having a multi fuel stove put in this summer, too, so will be starting to collect/buy cheaply all manner of suitable wood etc.
We're having substantial building work this summer, including new windows and doors, so the house will be a bit warmer, but still LOTS to do to make this place cosy for winter. It feels autumnal here already this week, even had the heating on last night - in June!!

Hi CHEAPY make sure the builders leave you ALL the wood offcuts from the building work! We NEVER pass a building site without checking if they're building a bonfire pile with the odd bits of wood, particularly when they're to the roof timbers stage and they are usually more than happy to give the waste away if we explain we've a stove to run. If you see folks taking down trees locally always ask if they want to get rid of the wood, many are grateful not to have to do that themselves. If you ask and they say no you're no worse off than if you hadn't asked at all, so ask every time!0
