I have my first winter casualty. My DD14 has come down with some cold / flu lurgy thing and is currently sniffling and huffing and puffing her way round the house. Started with a sore throat and sniffles but I suspect its because she decided not to wear a jumper on the way home from ju jitsu practice the other night. The banana thing works for tomatoes, we were given some by a neighbour on Monday and I put them in a bowl on top of a banana, by Thursday they were red ripe.
Shes pretty good to be fair and doesnt tend to catch too many lurgies but something has gotten a hold of her at the minute so shes resting up, lots of fluids and Ive just ordered multivitamins for her. To be fair - if the kids catch anything then its generally DH who catches it from them
I will have to give the banana thing a try. Just need to go and get some bananas first!
Time to find me again6 -
Good afternoon, could I join you please in getting ready for winter ? I recently downloaded the app again 🙄 and I’m getting everything I can think of ready for winter because I “feel “ it’s going to be a bad one.I’ve moved the living room around to unblock the radiators and I’ve got some draft seals to go onto the windows to stop any drafts coming in.Because it’s been chilly the past week, I’ve gone old fashioned and closing the curtains at dusk to keep the heat in but I need to get those condensation damp tubs to put on the window sill to stop the damp.
I’ve already got the winter hats and gloves out ready and also blankets on the sofa and chairs in the living room.
I've also had the heating on 2x this week in the mornings just to take the chill off so at least I know that’s working.I live in a council house so we have wooden doors until the council put new ones on but who knows when that will be so I’m going to invest in 2 door curtains and I need something to go over the letter box as well.
My DD has got a cold so that’s reminded me to stock up on cold and flu stuff in which I’ve let rung out off, typical 🙄
I also need to book my flu and Covid vaccine as well.Thank you for the pantry stock up ideas so I’ll be getting ready over the next few weeks.Trying to change my life and will:money:9 -
Hello, @Teaparty_mum, nice to see you here! There are lots of friendly people around. At least that's what I found. 😊
Slow and steady does it, rather than burning yourself out trying to do everything at once.
There seems to be a lot of colds and fluey things around at the moment. DD usually catches something when the littlies are back in her classes at school. The parents seem to think it's ok to send a child to school with a bottle of Calpol! They usually end up asleep on the big cushions....2025 Fashion on the ration

@sammykaye it may be worth doing COVID tests too. Scottish schools started a few weeks ago and friends daughter caught 'heavy cold' but the whole family have since come down with it and have tested positive. Hope she is feeling better soon8

WE have some recently expired Covid test kits in a cupboard. Does anybody know whether they would still give an accurate result? Know a lot of medications are still perfectly viable after their stated expiry date.6

I would try them, we've found that the liquid does tend to dry up though so may not be enough to do the test. Certainly worth giving it a try6

Our "new" secondhand cabinet arrived yesterday so I had lots of fun arranging the overspill from the kitchen. It feels so much better now everything has a place. I didn't realise how much it was bugging me. I will be doing more cooking at home to save money and because I prefer cooking in Autumn, batch cooking soups and curries. I think I will buy a butternut squash in my shopping next time to make soup.
I also sorted out my toiletries drawer yesterday and it is half empty, which is good as I have a habit of buying extras.
It has still been lovely weather here and it is meant to be nice next week too. I was going to sell my Kindles on Amazon as you can get a voucher or something. I will do that next week.
I booked some tickets for the cinema and the theatre this morning to have a few days out to look forward to. I have been reading so much lately that I think today I will just catch up on YouTube.
Did people on here see that Sort Your Life Out won a NTA? I did vote for that show.9 -

Making soup is very much winter prep. Just popped on to say Lidl have got butternut squash in their special veg offers this week until Thursday 99p per kilo. Sainsbury's are selling them at Nectar price £1.15 each. Compares well with Tesco at £1.45
By the way always choose a long thin one for preference as you get far fewer seedsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!12 -
