Eenymeeny said:I agree with you on the wearing of 'smart' clothes. My son always wore suits for work and thought that it really helped the way people treated him. (Many girls wore jeans and tee shirts for the office that he described as 'beach wear')
He travelled for his job and often got upgraded on flights which he attributed to the same thing. Since he usually was given a breakfast it was also money saving!10 -
Ha ha yes there's always another side to the story isn't there? My husband told me not to bother ironing his shirts which he was wearing for zoom calls as he said the creases wouldn't show! (Maybe a vee neck and a tie?
)
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)5 -
Re jumpers M n S do ranges of wool jumpers , acrylic , merino wool is a fine knit so wouldn’t take as long to dry as lambs wool . If you only need to be wearing for zoom calls a sweatshirt could be worn then exchanged for the jumper whilst taking the call . Then swapped back. Which would also save on washing as much.
As others say charity shops or outlets , or when the sales are on .Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
We,re no longer working. I retired my iron and ironing board at the beginning of lockdown. We haven't missed it!
clothes are dried outdoors where possible and stretch folded away.6 -
I wouldn't have lights on in only one room as my next door neighbour was broken into and had her car stolen a year ago while she slept where I used to live in east London. I am too paranoid about that as I know having lights on does deter burglars. I will look into solar lights though. I wouldn't have though to use them indoors. They would be good in the landing and bathroom at night.
I think joggers are quite warm, I borrowed a pair from my husband when it snowed a few years ago and found them much warmer than PJ bottoms. I think because the bottom bit clings to your leg so you don't get draughts up your leg. I think I said on here I now wear thermal leggings around the house and in bed when it's cold as they are even warmer.
I do need to get some warm jumpers too. I have only one that is warm and the others aren't so great. My husband only has one warm jumper but it is the heavy Maine New England fisherman's style and they do take ages to dry after washing!
Today's job is to paint our little shed and then go for a nice walk on the beach. It is only going to be 21° here which I prefer to the heat.:)

You could get some fleece lined joggers for when it gets particularly chilly. My hubs works nights outdoors and swears by these! I think Uniqlo usually sell them5

Uniscots97 said:Jellytotts said:@TheBanker it's worth having a look in your local charity shops for jumpers, you'll be amazed how much stuff in the mens section is almost brand new. We have a clearance shop for one of the bigger charity chains here and everything is £1, I pick up some amazing bargains in there.
Jeans are notorious for not being even a bit warm - ask any Mountain Rescue team what they think of people who go hiking in jeans even in warmer months and be prepared for some strong opinions
As for jogging bottoms - my aunt bought a set of sweatshirt and bottoms for my Dad, now mid-80s, about ten years back; he had worn a formal shirt and trousers seven days a week his entire life, pretty much, but he loves wearing those - he calls them "my relaxers", as in "we're having a lazy day here - I haven't even got changed out of my relaxers"!Being not-a-casual person, he initially only wore them first thing and last thing for when he spends half an hour doing physio exercises for his back, because he needed something to allow movement but keep him warm - but gradually he's become very comfortable in them.
If someone prefers not to wear those and stay with trousers, remember you can tuck your trouser-legs into your socks to keep your shins MUCH warmer...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I meant to say, has anyone noticed it feeling a bit autumn-ish in the early mornings? There's been a bit of a chill outside the last few days until the sun warms up, with dew on the grass and a bit of mist. This is in the South of England by the way.
The days are still warm but I can feel the summer turning to autumn now.15 -
