So I thought if I got down my winter prep list it would encourage me to be proactive and actually do it!!!

    I need to...

Finish renovating the kitchen, living room and wet room windows.
    Paint the kitchen and hall.
    Tile hall and kitchen (still!)
Sand and stain front and back doors.
    Stain gate
    New stone on drive (maybe)
    Make sure 4x4 is roadworthy
    Guttering on stables
    stable repair and paint
    wall paper bedroom
insulate back of loft and utility loft
    stable electric

Luckily I think I am sorted for winter wellies as I won a pair whoop whoop and the horses all have new rugs in the sale so they are okay.

I however need a new smart work coat when they come into the shops.

I am going to sort out a box of hats and gloves this eve and another with thick socks.

    I have so far -
Cleared the porch and put up new racks for garden implements and wet coats. Now looks less like a shed and more welcoming.
Sanded some of the windows and the gate.
Got rid of loads of clothes
    Cleared out the utility

I start to panic about now about how much I have to do and such little time!

I don't know where summer is but it doesn't appear to be here..
went for a quick walk yesterday, the trees have CONKERS on them and they're quite a good size already (some had already fallen) and others had acorns though these were still small.
the brambles aren't far off berries appearing in place of the flowers..

It can't be autumn yet, I'm not ready! It's only July!

I was cold this afternoon. It's been grey and dull all day. And wet for quite a while. Not felt summery at all today.

In fact, I've put the quilt back on the bed...

I went out to work this evening in a hoodie & my baseball cap. I was actually chilly!

Tomorrow I'm off to run errands which will include getting new blinds for the kitchen & bathroom, a curtain rail for putting a curtain up over the kitchen door, a shower curtain rail & shower curtain, and lots of little bits & pieces for me to sort before winter gets here. I'm hoping to hit some summer clearance sales, but I think it may take me bribing DD with some form of take out treat to get all I want done with her in tow to bounce ideas off :o We're also buying the dog a new bed, so he's further off the floor ready for the cold weather, and a furminator for grooming him as I'm sick of dog hair EVERYWHERE!
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!
  • I've got to ring around and compare quotes on a few small jobs that need to be done in the house before winter. I might as well start getting things sorted now, or I'll end up distracted with other tasks.

The weather has been wonderful lately and not too warm, although it's played havoc with hay fever/allergies.
    Saving, decluttering and doing alright.

Chimney sweep came yesterday. He was here nearly four hours
He didn't sheet anything up or move anything. Used a big vacuum type thing which took quite a while then did a draught test on both chimneys. The he gave the stove a thorough clean. :)

There wasn't a speck of soot anywhere in the room so I was really pleased. I think I got my money's worth even though it did seem quite a lot.

Now the other chimney has been swept, the new liner can go in.We've had the new stove stood here for a few weeks ready to be installed. Can get that organised now. :D

Weather feels quite autumnal here. Hope it picks up for the rest of the school holidays.

For anyone looking for winter boots, Dune have a sale on - I ordered these - they just arrived and they are fab, snug and comfy and some good reviews. I'll be toasty warm on the school / work run this autumn and winter :)
There's not many left now - think I got the last ones in my size...

I've just been perusing Millets sale, and come away with 4 good brand fleece tops for myself and 2 of http://www.millets.co.uk/equipment/62006420-eurohike-floral-folding-seat-multi.html these as they seemed very useful for when out for the day, better than lugging around big chairs. Everything for under £40, including postage. :D

One small step in my winter preps.

Hi all, the last few weeks I have been thinking about what I need clothes wise for winter this year, mainly for the children. I need to go through what they already have, but I imagine most things will be needed as I purchased very little last year. I`ve been keeping my eye open in the charity shops, waiting (eagerly) for the winter clothes to come in, which I should imagine wont be long now, as most high street shops have reduced the summer clothes. Millets have a good sale on at the moment, so I have purchased the 2 youngest waterproof/windproof/breathable jacket/coats for £10 each which I`m please with, older 2 still have ones which fit.
But I was wondering, those who have young children, how much clothes do you allow per child? how many pairs of trousers or leggings? t-shirts, fleeces, etc, I have 4 children, the 2 youngest share a room, and then my 11yr old son shares with his 14yr old brother (he sorts most of his own clothes with his allowance) so space is a bit of an issue, but also when they have too much clothes (in the past if ive had a good day in the charity shops and perhaps bought too much :o) there wear for a day, then even if its clean put something else on next day, creating too much washing! any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods

Just been to the haute couture emporium of the prepping world-
    yep, Milletts :rotfl:
Got myself a 3in1 Bergaus jacket reduced from £180.00 to £90.00.

Still seems a lot of money but my last two winter jackets have been about a tenner off fleabay so MrD said go for it.
So I did :D (quickly before he changed his mind!)

Hoping I'll get at least 4/5 years wear out of it.
