Preparing for Winter V

Oh rosemary would work yes.
I'm not mad on the light nights, here the sky to the north still has light in it at 11pm and it's back again just after 3am. I prefer the long dark cosy winter nights - must have been a bat in a past life. Or maybe still am
We got rid of the skylight in the loft when it was sucked out in a gale one winter. The postman put something through the letterbox just at the same time there was a big gust of wind, and there was this almighty WHOOSH sound and then the thump and tinkle of glass in the back garden as the window and frame landed!0 -
My EDF fixed rate finishes next month so at lunchtime I went onto Uswitch and changed to First Utility, and looks like I will save myself around £140 over the coming year which I am pleased about. Its all about making small changes and having more available cash.I am already £120 in credit on my duel fuel bills so hopefully I will get a bit of that back. I am also starting to think of ways to make more gifts for Christmas and looking around for things to go into gift boxes. I already have a list of folk whom I buy bits for and if I get a few bits now it will ease the pain of the gift buying. Preparing for winter is about not only saving cash but squirrelling stuff away for lean times ahead .Sadly I think we are all looking at leaner times. When a Pound shop has problems than it says a lot for the coming economy0

I've finally got £100 cashback from purchases of white kitchen goods over a year ago. That money has gone straight into fire wood and it feels a really welcome bonus.I'm ahead of my game and that feels good.0

DD1 has had a big sort out of her wardrobe and I now possess lots of new to me warm winter woollies to keep me cosy when the weather is colder!0

This summer we're Sorting Out The Flat - when I moved in, 3.5 years ago, we put stuff where it would go, and before that when Mr Nice moved in, he put stuff where it would go and then my stuff went round that, so now we're really looking at how we use the flat, how we could use the flat, how we want to use the flat...
One side-effect is that my area of the sitting room is much more spacious, just by swapping a couple of things around and thus moving the chair round by 90 degrees. It could well mean it's much easier to keep my bit warmer in autumn, to use the room later into the year...
Another side-effect is that I've corralled all the cold-weather stuff together, and can see how many jumpers I have that I just don't wear, mostly because they are worn-out and scruffy and look awful... ummm... my excuse would be...?They're so worn-out I don't think they're even any good for felting and cutting up to make anything else... luckily we're doing a run to the tip which has textile-rag recycling, so...

This might be the hottest day of the year so far BUT I am heading into the city on the bus and will be looking for sales in the stores and maybe hoping to pick up some good quality winter jumpers and long sleeved blouses in summer sales which ought to be starting sometime around now!0

Lyn great minds. I spent yesterday stacking up the wood store then came inside for a rest where I finished knitting a sock! What are we like? :rotfl:
I hope your day is fruitful.0 -
Sensible beings, that's what we are my poppet, who know that this fantastic weather is only transitory and that normality in it's damp, grey dreariness will return to our lives all too quickly and then it will be autumn etc. and that sock and woodpile will be a very good thing to have!
I'll let you know what I find if anything is what I'm looking for xxx.0 -
I spent yesterday stacking up the wood store
I've been out there with my moisture meter - not only is this winter's wood looking good but so is some of the stuff earmarked for the following year. It's good seasoning weather here on the south coast: warm but with a cooling (and drying) breeze.0
