Rosie383 you are right, it is good to support small businesses and focus on the positive.
Black Friday today, let's ignore it!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
is it Black Friday, oh I hadn't noticed :rotfl:
keeping my purse firmly closed too, i love the link Caterina, i will let hubby and DD watch it too, thanks.
must be strong0 -
Greying, I couldn't agree more with your wise words! For a bit of real fun anticonsumer stuff, do a search on "Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping", too much stuff to put links to, but very entertaining!
Thanks Caterina - I hadn't heard of this guy and his 'movement' beforeI have just watched about a third of the WWJB? - The Movie. A deliciously eccentric way of spreading a very serious message - but anything that Morgan Spurlock is involved with is worth a watch. I know the stats were for the US, but goodness...... and after the scenes of hysteria in a few stores here yesterday, I guess those stats will be, 'coming to a news item on UK TV screens soon'

I haven't watched the movie, Greying, I plan to at some point though. I just find Rev Billy hilarious and very effective to bring the point home.
All set for a No a Spend Weekend, but this is nothing new for me, I try to have quite a few of these per year.
I hope that the level of Black Friday madness from the US does not reach the UK shores. At least we know we have quite a large and peaceful army of OSers to counteract some of that crazeFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Happy Birthday Pastures new
I already have everything Christmas wise and we shop weekly on Thursday's, so a NSD day anyway.
But I do think that since Sunday trading was brought in it has made people spend more.
I always use local businesses such as the greengrocer, market, butcher, farm shop, local hardware store etc.
In the long run it saves money and waste, you just buy what you need.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Not Buying it 2015!0 -
I'll be buying milk today (completely out) but other than that, the purse will not open.
Well said, greying. Far too much blinking shopping going on, and not enough time hanging out.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Sympathy for no-shopping day, but I did go to our local farmers' market as usual and did stock up as I always do.
It would have gone against the spirit to boycott them!0 -
ha, I had a NSD forced on me, when I went to get some shopping and found that DH had emptied the account again *growl*. At least it was before I started shopping, and not as I was going to pay!DFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

I almost had a NSD today, but I found that we didn't have the replacement bulbs for our kitchen light fitting (which I thought were in the cupboard), so had to go to £1 shop to get some and came out £10 poorer, lol! We then went into iceland and spent almost £4 in there.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs
