Do I pay these

Hi all

I'm not going to bore you with stories of how this happened. But I have read mixed things saying to pay account or just leave them.

What do you think I should do, see below debts

Halifax defaulted 17/05/2010 this says £1638, however I was paying this off every month via a door collector and only have £200 left to pay.... Is it odd that it is showing this?

T-Mobile £80 defaulted 10/12/2011

Motormile £2416 (I actually do not know what this is :/) default date 22/12/2009

O2 £50 settled on 20/01/2009

Natwest £2140 defaulted 31/05/2010

Now today I have just had a stupid realisation that they are removed from report 6 years after account closed? Not after shown on report?

Omg how do I know if they are closed, it's all so long ago I can't really remember.

This is really going to hurt me, I was hoping to spend the next 3 years to save for house deposit, but I'm not gonna get any loan for another 6 years now waiting for these to go.

    Hi

Accounts that are defaulted are removed from your credit file 6years after the default date. Accounts that are not defaulted are removed 6years after closed.

If you choose to not pay any of the accounts there is always a chance that a creditor/debt collector may take court action against you. And if you then don't pay any CCJ in full within a month then the CCJ would be on your file for a further 6years from the date of the CCJ.

Even once the defaults have dropped off the money is still owed - and a creditor can still take court action against you.
Although if there is a period of 6years where you make no payment/do not acknowledge the debt and only if they don't start court action in that period - then you could defend against any future court action due to the debts being statute barred.

Is the £1638 the current outstanding balance? or the defaulted amount? the default amount should remain at whatever it was. The current outstanding balance should be reducing as you make payments (but could be up to 2months out of date).

  • This was the defaulted amount. Now I'm concerned as I have been paying £100 each month and only have £200 left to pay. Do I contact the bank for this or the debt collect agency to find out what is going on?

On your credit file does it show the current balance as £1638?

  • Under current balance it says £1638 and I have just noticed it also says default/delinquent balance £1649

Yes I have like a card receipt thing the collector fills out and get given a receipt.
  • I'm such an idiot, it says date last updated 11/04/2011.

So once these things are fully paid I should get in touch with the comoany to update this?

I would write to the creditor listed on your credit file and remind them that their entry on your credit file must be accurate, and that you require them to update the current balance to reflect the payments being made to x (door collector company).
