Virgin on ridiculous

Wanted to talk to someone from Virgin about a mortgage in my wife's name. Learned that the only way we can do this is by telephone. We can visit Virgin shop and they will provide the line but personally I do not regard this as a satisfactory mortgage service

Data protection would stop you talking about a mortgage in someone elses name unless they were there.
I think 99% of lenders will need you to call the mortgage department up. Branches will not have anything more than possibly the balance and repayments again data protection.
Employees are only allowed access to information they will need on a regular basis.
When I worked for RBS, I could see bank accounts and credit card accounts as I worked in the credit card department, I was not allowed to see loan information or mortgage info/insurance info or anything else they did.
Likewise when I worked for co-op mortgages I only had access to mortgage systems and nothing else.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Virgin branch service consists of this. You could both visit a broker and get it done much quicker and with less effort.

You want to talk to Virgin about arranging a new mortgage in your wife's name, or you want to talk to Virgin about an existing mortgage in your wife's name?
if the latter, you will need to have your wife supply Virgin with a letter of authority for you to discuss it without her being present.
If you are complaining their branches are little more than sales outlets with nothing of any substance undertaken in them, that's been true of most financial services providers for as long as I can remember. You don't need another lender, you need the 1980s or earlier.I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Straight to the point
Do we really want to return to that?
FWIW I worked in the industry when it was like that and I didn't "go outside" as a broker consultant until 1986! Less than thirty years ago. Let's just wait and see who thinks we should return to that...?I am a mortgage broker.
