Getting paid early at Christmas

Comments

  • The only reason I'm getting paid early is that my pay day falls on the 26th which is a bank holiday.

I'm glad I'm weekly paid, January is already a 5 week month and getting paid in advance is just too much temptation for most people.

In theory when the December payment goes in there should still be a week of November's money left, so it shouldn't really cause a problem. There do seem to be people who spend to the absolute limit any money that lands in their account though so in the knowledge that they are about to be paid early in December, will burn through November's cash, then burn through December's and be broke throughout January.

Being paid early at Christmas is a perk because for those who celebrate Christmas and New Year there tend to be various expenses to pay out before the bank holiday starts, and it is inconvenient for many to be paid in what is likely to be a holiday for many (although not me this year!) It is only really an issue for those who cannot budget or plan their spending for more than a few weeks at a time.

Its mainly the younger ones that can't really budget. I am sick on the comments on FB 10n days after getting paid they are skint. After spending £300 on clothes, £150 on nights out, £80 on their hair etc. As they still live with their parents and don't have bills to pay.

I wish I could have £530 spare after bills each payday.

We pay our staff on the last Friday of the month (or the first business day before it if the Friday is a bank holiday like this year). However, we don't want to run payroll right on top of Xmas when everyone is winding down so for everyone's convenience we are getting paid a week early in December on 19th.

We are being super nice and also paying a week early in January on 23rd so that nobody ends up with a 6 week wait between payrolls.

It has barely any effect on the company cashflow and keeps the staff happy, so my boss is happy to oblige.

I doubt that that's the case, and really hope that it isn't. I don't think that "most" people are so careless as to spend whatever is in their account with no understanding of making it last. I know that that sort of person will more likely end up on here than those who can budget, but I don't think that I know anyone who'd make such a simple mistake out in the real world.

Just because you are paid early does not mean you have to spend early.

No such thing as a 5 week month apart from feb they are all 30 or 31 days.

I have to bite my tongue about this at work every year - boss never says whether we'll get paid early in December or not until the very last minute and people start whinning about how they've got to buy Little Timmy's presents yet / go to 27 christmas parties in a weekend / etc etc and so have to be paid at least before the weekend before xmas. Then when he does pay early, they all spend January moaning that it's a long month, they've got no money and are having to live on coal and rainwater.

&^%$%&* It's not as if they didn't know Christmas was coming at the start of the year. January is not a long month - its only 31 days - the same as 6 other months of the year. When this is pointed out to them they get really ars*y. So now I bite my tongue and walk away.

I don't care when I get paid in December - December's wage isn't touched until January
