Hi all, sadly my partner has just started a 7 yr prison sentence. I've a stack of debts to sort out & am hoping to get some cleared or wiped whilst he's gone. I have a letter of authority to act on his behalf but can anyone steer me in direction of a basic letter to send out requesting debt clearance due to circumstances? Thanks
This time next year Rodney...

Try speaking to one of the free debt charities- stepchange, national debtline or Christians against poverty etc.
Are the debts yours or OHs? I don't know how benefits/ DMPs etc work in prison sorry.LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
Is the house you live in mortgaged (with him on the mortgage)?
If not, is any of the debt joint? Is there any reason he could not go bankrupt? Don't know if you can do that from prison, but see what the free debt charities say.LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T

There is no rule stopping a person from declaring themselves insolvent while in prison - whether that be through bankruptcy or a Debt Relief Order. Obviously it can present certain technical challenges, but there are procedures in place to address these.

Hi ayla261
This is our basic template for asking creditors to write off a debt:
