I think the odds are shorter. Its 50:50. You either get the job or you don't.

There is no point analysing the situation or tryingo second guess it. It'll lead to disappointment if you don't get it and could ge an anti-climax if you do!
    Nope. It's 50/50 regardless.

There are 2 outcomes. you either get the job, or you don't. It's irrelevant how many people go to interview as it isn't random chance that you are the person they choose.

Of course they are under no obligation to hire any of them, they may hate you all, or they may go left field as they find someone themselves in the interim and don't have to pay the recruiting fee.

Thinking of it in terms of 'odds' or some other equation isn't going to work. It's all about the person, and how they perform.

You guys don't really understand this whole statistics thing, eh?

There's a 50:50 change you're going to get hit by a car today. I mean, you're either going to get hit or you're not going to get hit. Right?

You have got me worried now - the previous poster has just made me realise that I have a 50% chance of being hit by a meteor today (based on a "either I will or I won't" philosophy).

Don't forget that the recruitment agent, sorry - headhunter, works on a commission basis and will tell you whatever you want to hear that stops you from finding and accepting another role whilst the company goes through it's second round of interviews and selection process.

I have always found that a "hope for the best and prepare for the worst" approach works best in these situations.

Good luck though and hope you get the role :)

Probably best you just stay home today
  • thanks folks - I've been pestering the recruitment agency to tell me when the second interview will be and so they're chasing again today. It's a bit of a faff going in again for another interview but I do want the role. That said, I have several irons in the fire and this is just one of them so I'm not going to overlook other opportunities while they piddle about! Worst case scenario, I just stay where I am for now and look to move on in the New Year.

Really appreciate all your help folks :)

On the upside, I've got a 50/50 chance of winning a few million on the lottery. The Ferrari is already on order :)

I've worked at several companies where there is only one candidate at a second interview stage, particularly if there haven't been many candidates at first stage. You may already have been lucky....

This is what happened to me in my current role. I was the only one invited back as I was the preferred candidate from the 1st round. The main purpose of the 2nd interview was to introduce me to some of the team they wanted me to work with.

They had a back up candidate who they didn’t initially invite to a 2nd interview, but they would have done had I either not gotten on with the team or turned down their offer. But that didn’t happen.

Sometimes a 2nd interview means the job is yours to lose/reject.

Wonder if there is any update on the outcome of the OP? For what it's worth in the last year I was invited back to 2nd stage twice and 3rd stage once too. Didn't get any of the jobs for various reasons. 1 case there were 3 of us at 2nd stage, little to choose between us but they gave to one of others. 2nd case 2 of us invited to 2nd stage and they went with other guy. 3rd case I was preferred candidate of local FD and MD and was only candidate sent to 3rd stage, interviewed by various individuals at Group level who thought I was too experienced and wouldn't stay in role long. Company are still recruiting for the role 4 months later. Currently hoping to get to 2nd stage for another position after an interview last Thursday.
I'm proud of my advice, if others want to look I say enjoy the show!
