Working the holidays

Just wondering if there's anyone out there in the same position as us in working through the holidays?
We will be working pretty much all of it, barring a small miracle.
Xmas day morning we will do presents as DD is only 6. Then we'll be working until late evening. The rest of it will be a mix of one of us working and the other looking after dd.
I have hopes of at least one day off with all of us together to possibly invite some other family around to have our Christmas day, fingers crossed!
It can be a very lonely feeling working through the holidays and just wanted to see if anyone else on here would be as well just to keep each other motivated and maybe offer tips about making most of it
Hope no-one minds me posting it here, I know it's not very old style. But this forum is like my 'home' forum

Nargleblast - I'm not fussed about New year, I won't be working the evening, DH will. I'd rather go to bed! I stay up and pop down to the bar to say happy new year to hubby at midnight then go to bed.
Camelot - thank you ☺️0 -
Since I became a nurse there has been only one Christmas holiday period that I didn't work and that was because I was unemployed.
It's expected that we do Christmas or New Years. It's worse when all your coworkers have small children they expect those with grown children to work it, so they can have it off.
The worst Christmas I remember was when my husband was in A'stan one year. I had to go in and work the late evening shift and leave my children at home, alone. We have no family here. I made sure they had a full trimmings lunch and loads of DVDs and snack for while I was gone. Felt awful the entire shift.0 -
When my husband was nursing he would sometimes have to work Christmas Day. It was harder for him than it was for the children - even when they were small. We could have been kidnapped by aliens and they wouldn't have noticed! They certainly don't look back and feel hard done by and felt that what their dad was doing was really what Christmas was about.Stash Busting Challenge waiting for inspiration:D :j0

I love working the holidays, although no work this year on the 25/26th December but then working right through until the 5th Jan0

Wondercollie it's hard when kids are involved! I think that's why I'm struggling with it, because I've never had a Christmas day with my dd and I think next year might be that last one that she believes I've already said to DH that I just don't want to do it again next year. If it all goes the way it should DH's last DMP payment is next December. Then we will be free and not tied down to anything job wise as that's what's holding us where we are, our accommodation comes with the job and we just can't afford to rent with his debt payments.0

I won't be working xmas this year as did last year. I will be in all over the New Year though, not that I mind really.
I'm hoping that in a couple of years (if not less) that I will be able to go part time, so that will mean working less of them.
People with kiddies expecting others to work it for them really has pee'd me off in past years. I have an elderly mother who has no-one but me family wise worth talking about....so us without kids also have responsibilities and people who depend on us. However I do also get that parents want to be with their kids though.
I can't wait until I don't have to work xmas anymore.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I've done all of the past 14 Christmas days, I've worked for the company for 15 years in August and I'm only 31!
Ive got on with it as I've accepted its part of the job, but this year the company have decreed that we have to open for the evening as well, so we will be working all day and not seeing any of our dd. That will be the nail in the coffin for me leaving the company. It's all about the profit and nothing about the people. I'm just waiting for DH to find a job doing something else as he's the manager and we can't move until he does!0
