I am close to having no money and in dire straits

Options
A month ago, my partner died suddenly due to an epeletic fit.

In that time, I have been loggerheads with the DWP who have been informed of his death but have not paid me Carers Allowance I am entitled to and the last of his ESA and DLA. I applied for a funeral grant, and they only paid for 50% the funeral. I have to find another £1100. I am now on ESA, but do not get much and have been living off his savings which have gone from about £300 to £100.

We owe Council tax, I've been given a Housing Benefit overpayment and waiting for a claim of Housing Benefit, but feel it is going to be much less housing benefit as I am under 32 (I am 30).

I am feeling really down, and worried of running out of money. My cupboards are stocked, but it's Direct Debits and other stuff thats getting to me. I can't move back home to my Mum as she only has a two bedroom, and my sister has a large family of four children,

What can I do?

I think that you might be better posting this on the benefits board, as the people there will probably be more knowledgeable about this kind of situation.

Didn't want to read and run. Take care xx
  • So sorry for your loss.
Are you actively looking for employment now? I realise this is all going to be a big change in circumstances now, the job centre or CAB can help with doing a CV and with filling out job applications.
Have you looked at www.turn2us.co.uk or www.entitledto.co.uk to see what/if you are entitled to any benefits?
Best thing would be get back into paid employment, your caring experience may help.
    good luck

  • I'm sorry for your sudden loss, you must still be in shock.

When my sister's husband died she got a one off death benefit payment of £2k and a weekly payment of approx £25 for 12 months. She got this very quickly too. Have you applied for this?
