8 hours work

Hi,
I am currently on ESA, my last job was April 2009. I have just started a part time job doing 8 hours per week. I have received my first pay slip and I have been taxed £31.20 on basic pay of £165.09. The tax code on my payslip is simply "OT"
I have no idea how this works, can anyone advise me thanks?

No, I've not been given a starter check list0

I have now handed my P45 to my new employer, but I was never asked for it (I actually forgot about it as it has been 5 years since I was last employed)0
-
Right, Thank you. I suppose I had better ring the tax office0

My employer got me to fill in a P60, as I did not have a P45 at the time (I had not worked since April 2011 & had not signed off JSA at the time)
So I am guessing that you should have filled in a P60 instead of giving them an old P450 -
Topaztiger1983, It would have been a P46 that your employer would have given you to complete on the start of your job.
A P60 is given to all employees at the end of the tax year detailing everything they have been paid and how much tax and NI they have paid over the previous tax year.
OPmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I will ring my Payroll department and the HRMC tomorrow.
I have just looked at my P60 dated April 2014 and the tax code is 944L
I would have thought my employers should have known the right procedure!0 -
my tax code on my payslip is 1000L0

Thank you, you have been very helpful0
